When it comes to dishing out scores (0-10), it helps to have a general idea of what each score means, both to you and to other scouts. Unfortunatly, Slicethepie do not provide scouts with a scoring criteria. Instead, you are simply asked to allocate a score from 0-10 based on how you feel others will score the track. But what constitutes a 6? What tracks deserve a 0? and does any track warrant a 10?
To help you out, Piewatch asked experienced scouts with 5* track records to share their personal scoring criteria! Feel free to adopt their scoring systems….if it works for them, it could work for you!

10 – An instant classic, beyond criticism.
9 – A superb track that stands out amongst it’s competitors.
8 – A great song. It may not be the most memorable but it displays a high level of musicianship.
7 – Good song, there is room for improvement but your on the right track.
6 – Fairly good effort possibly hampered by some poor singing or too much repetition.
5 – Fairly average stuff, usually lacking in originality.
4 – A sub-standard effort that requires a lot of work due to unoriginal song writing, sub-standard singing and/or weak musicianship.
3 – Crap, hampered so badly by lack of skill or inaudible recording quality that it’s never going to work. Not even their mums will like it.
2 – Even more crap for the same reasons as number 3.
1 – Step away from the desk son, put down the instrument. You’re making a right tit of yourself!
0 – Noise, jokers, idiots and covers.

10 – The participating musicians have developed their talents to a far more than simply acceptable standard, placing their life into their music. Great attention to every detail involved.
9 – A song that is almost as convincing, yet some slight work is still required through devotion. Definitely still more than welcome within the showcase.
8 - A great song, with confidence and compassion flowing through the performance. Listening was worthwhile throughout and never failed to maintain attention.
7 - A good track, sitting above the average musicians and songs. Will gain recognition but still will be expected to prioritize it’s development over time.
6 - The ‘good side’ of average. Showing some promise as musicians but quite a distance from their overall goal with much effort needed to help achieve their aspirations. Can maintain acknowledgment but may lose the attention.
5 – The middle score for medium musicians. This is pretty much average music that will be given this score by scouts entering and expecting average music, they will be skeptical so being labeled ‘average’ is not necessarily a good thing. At least it is a start.
4 - Poor, not consistent or enthusiastic enough to be appreciated for much time. Further work is obviously a necessity and will be required to come close to making a positive impression.
3 – Very poor and weak. Maybe for songs and musicians that have only started beginning development, as have the musicians. The aspects of music that we expect to be there may not be – timing, tuning, accuracy.
2 – A vague form of music. A very harsh score to give to only those who are deserving of it, lacking effort and skill without really wanting to develop it. Not willing to progress and uploading unfinished and tediously flawed music is satisfactory enough for them.
1 - Effortless sounds. The opposite of perfection, an attempt has been made to create some sounds and upload them even if they are displeasing, intimidating or for the sole purpose of being comical yet failing.
0 – Illegally uploaded tracks, breaching copyright laws and showing no creativity of their own. Silent tracks or very monotonous noises that have been uploaded for reasons that are only known by the mysterious people that upload them. Watch out for faulty tracks, as they could be good tracks concealed by an error, however the artists should check their uploads.

This is helpful. Thank you
Huh?
Let me get this straight, the game is to rate tracks based on their relative popularity among other tracks on slicethepie.com, right? So to be an accurate scout, one must do a *lot* of reviewing in order to get a sense of where the competition on slicethepie.com is, no?
In a word, yes but its also about its popularity out “there”
It’s useful. Thanks for the tips!
