Piewatch - What made you start making music?

EE - I like to write parody songs, so coming up with lyrics was a lot of fun. But I’m not that good with music tunes, so I never bothered. A friend of mine, named Deborah Linden (deborahlinden.com), heard one song I wrote and encouraged me to write more.  She then convinced me to join February Album Writing Month (fawm.org) and I enjoyed writing songs so much I just continued to do it.

Piewatch - What provided the inspiration for “I love you but I’m ugly”?

EE - A lot of love songs are sung by guys who can get babes.  But what about guys who are not all that skilled at wooing women? You rarely hear songs by that demographic.  So I figured I would write a song for all those guys who know just how hard it is to procure the affections of the opposite sex.  I sure know how hard it is. *laugh* People really shouldn’t take my songs too seriously though.

Piewatch – ‘Wani Ra yana ro aisha’…..Is this really Vulcan for ‘I love you’?

EE –
According to the internets it is!  :)

Piewatch - Geek love songs? That’s a rather niche sub genre…is there anyone else competing in this market, or have you got a free ticket to stardom?

EE – Dear me, no.  There are a lot of geek song writers out there. However, I have the domain name.  Huzzah!  Can you believe no one took that domain name?  I’m surprised it wasn’t snatched up immediately! *laugh*

Piewatch – Who in your professional, expert opinion is the biggest geek of all time?

EE - My tenant in the basement.  He’s a LARPer.  Enough said.  *LAUGH* Actually, I seem to collect geeks as friends. I have a whole menagerie in fact. My wife, however, isn’t a geek.  She tends to leave the house when I have the hoard come over.

Piewatch - Your slicethepie bio reads ‘I write geek love songs for fun. I heard how brutal the reviews can be on this site, and I can’t WAIT! *laugh*’…….Have the reviews lived up to expectation?

Errol trying to sell children... unsuccesfully he reports

EE - It did!  My favourite quote, in fact, is this one: “He sang oddly, like he was on stage or creeping up on you in the dark. I was not sure of the slightly pervy way he delivered the lyrics.” *laugh*

Piewatch - There has been discussion on the slicethepie forum regarding your tracks chart potential if given a euro dance makeover.  Thoughts?

EE - You know, I missed that discussion completely!  I really only go into the General discussion forum.  So I went and found that thread today. I didn’t realize you guys were talking about my song.  That’s great! My songs are Creative Commons license, so if anyone wants to change it into Euro Dance, go for it!  I’d be flattered. :D

Piewatch - KX *cough* it has to be done! When you’re not writing geek love songs what do you do?

EE - All sorts of geek things.  I like to do stop frame animation.  I like to write novels. I like to play german boardgames. I like to eat oatmeal. I like to grope my wife. I am passionate about creative endeavours. My day job is a Multimedia Designer. And IT, but I don’t admit that for fear someone wants me to fix their computer.  I work for a small company called Children’s Technology Workshop (ctworkshop.com).  We enable kids to be creative with technology: stop frame animation, lego engineering, computer game design. I have a lot of fun. :D

Piewatch - Where can we buy the geek songs album and how many have you sold to date?

EE – Well, the first album was a limited release. I rushed it and made myself 25 copies and gave it to my wife as a present for our 10th anniversary.  I plan on selling a second release of the album with a few more songs as a fundraiser for Sanctuary (sanctuarytoronto.ca), where my wife works.  They are an organization which helps the poor and marginalized in Toronto.

But, all my songs are Creative Commons. So there will be a free download of version 2 at my website.

Piewatch - Could you write Piewatch a jingle? Any ideas how it would go?

EE - Something like this:
———————–
If you’re feeling down and out
and don’t know what to do about
your songs lambasted by the scouts
But It’s not time to weep and pout

There’s a site you can checkout
So cease your flames and still your shouts
No problem they cannot work out:
Like math homework! Or mother’s gout!

Piewatch, you’ll find they’re rather nice
Much better than a goatee, more appealing than bed lice

Piewatch Piewatch… Don’t make me tell you twice
I want some ninja sweetness, come and supersize my slice.
———————–

I did that rather quickly, so don’t hold it up to the same STP standards. *laugh*

Piewatch - Excellent!! Any last words?

EE - Floss.  There’s nothing more freeing than feeling the cleanliness between your teeth! And don’t take me too seriously.  :D

Love Errol as much as we do? Check him out on…
