Piewatch – Care to introduce yourself for those who haven’t heard you?

Howdy, hi & hello, my name is Jamie George and I have big curly hair!

Piewatch – What have you been up to recently?

I have literally been working my buns off, I’ve been working & collaborating with a lot of the UK House scene’s elite, which has been really cool, putting my style on some dirty beats, I’ve released a few singles that side of things, recently I just had a number 1 in the best of 2009 on Junodownload.com. Also made 2 major compilations CD’s which is great and have generally just been setting up my own record label & writing, recording & paying the rent.

Piewatch – When did you first start making music?

I was born into music really, but I 1st started making music when I was very young, making mashups & D&B remixes of old records, and recording them live onto tape, I didn’t even know what a PC was back then. Then when I was in my early teens I started making drum patterns on a clapped out PC in my Mum’s bedroom on a program called Hammerhead, I still use it to this day for ideas.

Piewatch – What would you say is your biggest achievement to date?JG Press Shot 08 12

Musically, I’d say playing on top of the Pops, to grow up watching a program of that status and then performing music on the show is crazy to me, obviously signing a major deal with EMI was huge but alongside that was receiving finance from Slicethepie, as it was more private & personal it was a solo effort I guess, it kind of made me realise that maybe I was doing the right thing by sticking with music, I never gave up. Releasing my solo album was the cherry on top.

Piewatch – How did the 3rd edge gig come about?

How did we meet? Long story short, I DJ’d at a club in Gillingham (Bar Rio) Tom & Dan MC’d for me, we were great friends & the vibe was awesome between us. Somebody from EMI noticed this and approached us; I guess it was a case of right time, right place and the rest is history. Great days that I’ll never regret or forget.

Piewatch – Who is cooler 3rd Edge Jamie George or present day Jamie George?

In 3rd Edge, I was known as JTee, let me just say I was the original before Justin Timberlake & John Terry Ha Ha!! In 3rd Edge I was definitely the more laid back I would say, but Jamie George now is a lot cooler because it’s 100% real, what you see is what you get, and I think you see a lot more of my personality & character now and hear it in my music.

Piewatch - Nevermind the Buzzcocks that must have been a shock!?! Describe that experience.

Buzzcocks was great, it all happened through MySpace, and people say MySpace is dead!! At 1st I thought it was a wind up, because one of my best friends Tor was teasing me by saying I should go on the show in the lineup. Literally 3 days later I got the message, I got back in touch & it was all the real McCoy. The day in general was great, it took about 3 1/2 hours to shoot, and my part took about 30minutes, 30 minutes of staring into oblivion & trying to not to laugh was hard work! After we all had a beer with the crew & panelists, FREE BEER?!! Yep, I was on the case! Thanks to the Buzzcocks team.

Piewatch – Buzzcocks labeled you as a rapper, we see you more as an Urban Pop act! Which would you say is more accurate?

I’m no rapper, and I’m weirded out to be put in the Urban category also, but then again, what would I put into? I’m definitely pop based though, but not like Tinchy Stryder or Chipmunk, that to me is Urban Pop. I’m no singer really either, I like to say that I’m a melodic story teller; I just do what feels right on the track I guess. I’m not fussed about being labeled though at all, the fact that people even talk about me is great.  My good friend Roska recently said on Choice FM that it’s just called the JG swagger Ha Ha.

Piewatch – What’s next for Jamie George?

Well I’m working already on album number 2, this time I’m going to collaborate with a lot producers & artists, as my debut was purely 100% Jamie George written & produced, all in my smelly bedroom. I definitely want to gig more, I’m getting together a band to play with, that’s a big goal of mine, to play my music live. I love live music. I have a few projects lined up also with other artists, but nothing 100% yet so I can’t really say that much, but definitely keeping the future based on music music music.

Piewatch – Onto the album, “Scared of a Day Job” how did you come up with the name and how has it been received?

Jamie George Press 09People have said to me over the years that I’m Scared of a Day job, so it was quite fitting, it definitely defines me in some ways. When people that know me see the name, they say “how more spot on could you be”. If I’m honest I don’t know for sure what people think of it, I have had a lot of good things said & reviews though, so I’m happy. Personally I listen to it and feel like I could’ve shaved a few tracks off but I’m happy with it.  I still think a lot of people don’t know about it, but I think with what’s happened with me in the UK Funky scene & with Buzzcocks, I think people will hopefully check my stuff out more.

Piewatch – Our fave tracks on the album are “My Love’s 4 U” & “Why”, what are yours and why?

“My Love’s 4 U” was a track I recorded just to keep my head in check, I was writing R&B Pop songs at the time for a boy band, and I was fed up of lyrics of being in the club with a bottle of Moet. That track helped me to get so many nice reviews on Slicethepie. My favorites on the album though are … wow so tough, they are all true stories & mean a lot to me. I do really like “Why (Inside her Mind)” & “Rays of Sunshine”. Wonderful Day & pretty Little Smile mean a lot to me also. Ha Ha I’m choosing all of them, what a cop out!

Piewatch – If you were to make a second album would you consider Slicethepie again?

I am making a second album, and I’ll definitely be involved with Slicethepie, they’ve done SO much for me, I never thought I’d be an “artist” again, and they helped me gain confidence & put me in the direction to gain knowledge to carry on living my life involved in music.  I never in a million years thought I’d get financed, I put my tracks up just as another way to get people to hear my music, at the time, the 3 tracks on the site were the only 3 tracks I’d recorded as Jamie George, I’m so glad I never ignored that MySpace message.

Piewatch – Who do you currently like in the charts?

In the UK Charts at the moment, it’s so varied, and is kind of hounded by the usual suspects who you’d expect to see there. I like the Chase & Status feat Plan B – end Credits, I’m glad he’s singing on it, he’s got a great voice. I like Jay Z; he’s done so much for Hip Hop. Soon the chart will be made up of X-factor contestants, so watch out!

Piewatch – If you could have any super power what would it be?

Well, I AM actually Spiderman, so…. ya know I have my web-sling, superhuman strength & of course my spider senses.

Piewatch – Elvis dead or alive?

Who’s Elvis? Joke, I was in Vegas recently & with all the Elvis’s there, I was convinced he’s amongst them secretly thinking, Ah Ha Thunk u very much!

Piewatch – Any irrational phobias?

I diss-like Spiders, which is crap considering I AM Spiderman.

Piewatch – McDonalds or Burger King?

KFC & Nando’s, but I have 24hour Mc D’s near me which is good after a night out.

Piewatch – Any last words?

Yes, Thanks Piewatch!!
Love, Peace & Chicken Grease

Piewatch – Cheers JTee!
