The scout player works on a Priority System. This means that the tracks with the least amount of reviews will be fed to a scout. As such, new uploads will immediately be prioritised ahead of all other tracks. If an artist uploads 3 new tracks, a scout may find themselves reviewing 3 tracks by the same artist one after the other.

If a glitchy track is uploaded (less than 60 seconds in length) this will be prioritised as it has 0 reviews. Unfortunatly, such glitchy tracks can never recieve a review and will remain on 0 reviews indefintley. This then creates a scenario where the glitchy track is reprioritised again and again, until it is removed.

The Priority System also explains why artists suddenly stop recieving reviews for long periods of time (weeks) as newer tracks and those with less reviews take precedence.

On a positive note, the Priority System can be used to an artists benefit should they wish to try out new tracks, as these will be prioritised and recieve immediate and numerous reviews.

The first thing to know about tips, is that you will receive 1 for every 10 tracks reviewed. Your tips should be given to the best artists that you feel are capable of reaching a Showcase. You will receive a free £5 voucher for every tipped artist that successfully reaches a Showcase so there is money to be made by using them wisely.

To tip an artist, simply click the tip icon on the right of the scout player (underneath the Watchlist icon). There is a pop-up that appears when you rollover it, saying ‘Tip Artist’ – you can’t miss it!

It is worth noting that you do not have to review an artist to place a tip on them. If you keep an eye on the Slicethepie forum, you will regularly see other scouts discussing artists that have caught their attention.

The number of tips available to you is displayed in your scouting profile on your Myslice page. This will also highlight how many reviews you need to submit to receive your next tip.

To view the artists you have tipped so far, Visit your Myslice page and click the Watchlist tab. If you tip an artist, they are automatically added to the Watchlist. A list of artists will be displayed, either showing they are tipped, or giving you the opportunity to tip them (if Watchlisted only).

IMPORTANT INFORMATION (From official FAQ):

Tips can only be used in the Scout Room in which they were earned. The moment a Scout Room ends and the Showcase for begins, all unused Tips evaporate, so best to use them as soon as you have earned them. Tips earned in the 24/7 Scout Room expire after 90 days so make sure you use them before you lose them!

Check out the Slicethepie FAQ for futher details

Once upon a time, scouts were rewarded for their ability to accurately score a track based on public opinion and commercial viability. In other words – scoring as close to the ‘public average’ as possible. Unfortunately, the law of numbers dictates that this average by its very nature will always lie within the central area of the scoreboard. This led to widespread tactical voting, with many scouts voting in a narrow range (4-7) to maintain high accuracy, leaving the accuracy killing extremities of the scoreboard alone.

To put a stop to this, Slicethepie introduced an algorithm known as the ‘Spread‘. Put simply, scouts are now penalised should they fail to use the full spread (1-10) of the scoreboard within their last 30 reviews. The theory is that over a 30 review period, a scouts scoring pattern (1-10) should fit into a bell curve, with the most scores being given in the central range (4-7), decreasing in frequency for the extremities (1-3) and (8-10). The problem is that in order to satisfy the ‘spread’ algorithm, more often than not, you lose accuracy! Similarly, even if you are exceptionally accurate, you may find yourself losing stars because of an unsatisfactory spread.

As such, the ‘spread’ has become infamous within the scouting community as a major obstacle, between them and their higher scout ratings/stars.

How much you earn as a scout is directly attributed to your scouting star rating. The more stars you have, the more cash you earn per review and the greater the influence of your scores.

We have provided a table below highlighting the ‘known’ criteria required for each star rating.

There has never been any official ‘benchmarks’ given on the site.
This information comes directly from members scouting experience and is subject to change.

As such, we recommend you take the figures as an approximation.

1* Star - First 25 (or so) tracks

2* Star - Approx 25 tracks reviewed with an accuracy of approx 80%+

3* Star - Approx 100 tracks reviewed with an accuracy of approx 85%+

4* Star - Approx 125 tracks reviewed with an accuracy of approx 90%+

5* Star - Approx 225 tracks reviewed with an accuracy of approx 92%+

Please note that it is possible to lose stars even if you are meeting these benchmarks due to a poor ‘spread’ pattern. Be sure to use the scoreboard in it’s entirety (1-10) when scoring tracks. Scoring within a narrow segment of the scoreboard (ie..4-7) will usually result in the loss of a star(s).

One factor that is used to calculate your scout rating is accuracy. Accuracy is displayed as a percentage and signifies how closely you are scoring in comparison to the public average.

There is much confusion and frustration amongst scouts in regards to how to score a track. Understandably many scouts would prefer to score based on their own personal opinions.

However, as stated in the official FAQ – the scoring criteria is officially as follows;

Evaluating how close you rate each track compared with the average score of all other people who have rated that track. The better you are at judging this, the higher your rating will rise

We recommend you try not to bring personal bias into your scoring and try to rate a track objectively based on how you feel everyone else will (on average) score. If you wish to score a track based on your own opinion, be aware that this could have a negative effect on your accuracy and earning potential.
For more information on approximate accuracy requirements for specific star ratings see our ‘Stars’ entry in the Buzzwords section.

Basically the ‘V‘ stands for vouchers and whilst they cannot be withdrawn, they do come with an equivalent £ value!

Vouchers have one use, and one use only….investing!

Invest them in Showcase artists to recieve musical rewards and contracts (if eligible)!! You can invest a minimum of £1. However, you can invest less than £1 of vouchers if you can make up the shortfall from another source (ie..myslice account). Simply enter how many £(vouchers) you would like to invest and you will be asked where you wish the money to come from. In the case of vouchers, choose your voucher account.

If you are not entitled to contracts, you will still recieve musical rewards from investing.

So what are you waiting for?? You are basically throwing money away if you don’t use them…

Give it a try – simply log onto Slicethepie and click on the INVEST tab…choose an artist you like the sound of and invest away!!
